TNT Suomi Oy landed in LogiCity

The wheels start rolling at TNT’s cargo terminal in Turku when the company’s daily direct cargo flights from Liège, Belgium and Tallinn, Estonia arrive. Following a painstaking analysis, TNT Suomi Oy relocated in the LogiCity area in 2004.
Various surveys and customer negotiations preceded the opening of the direct cargo flight connections. TNT considered alternative destinations for direct flights, but the company’s calculations revealed Turku as the best option. The fact that all of TNT Suomi Oy’s road transports already went via Turku was another determinant speaking volumes for the region’s logistical logic.
Overlapping flights and road transports allowed TNT to combine its distribution and pick-up networks in Finland. The strong regional infrastructure was yet another factor that influenced the decision. TNT concluded that the logistics cluster formed by ports, airport, rail network and road connections would continue to yield added value for the company into the future.
DFDS Transport Oy was drawn by excellent connections
According to Dick Bäckström, Managing Director of DFDS Transport Oy, good connections were the primary reason for building their own terminal in the LogiCity area.
“The airport is right next to us, the ports of Turku and Naantali are nearby, and the connections to the Helsinki metropolitan area and the rest of Finland run smoothly. The spacious lot was also attractive,” explains Mr Bäckström.
