TNT Turku at the double

03.09.2007

LogiCity 2008 continues to grow with global Express delivery operator TNT set to double its terminal space at Turku Airport to 5,400 square metres, creating as many as twenty new jobs in the process over the next two years.

TNT’s Turku office acts as the sorting centre for the company’s road transports in Finland and handles shipments to customers west of the Tammisaari–Kokkola line. TNT’s local expansion will make Turku the company’s largest Finnish operation.

“In 2003, we thought the terminal would ensure sufficient capacity up to 2012 but the Turku area economy is growing strongly and local companies are proving increasingly successful in export markets,” explains Peter Ervasalo, TNT’s Regional Director for Turku. The new facilities due for completion in March 2008 are designed to meet demand for the next seven years.

With 3,000 active business customers, TNT Turku’s deliveries have doubled in four years and the company’s year-on-year growth in Finland is running at more than 10%. TNT is projecting turnover in excess of 30 million euros for the Turku operation in 2007.

TNT expansion will speed LogiCity development and the new terminal is a good fit with Finavia’s plans to promote the area as a major logistical hub. “2008 is a big year for LogiCity and this terminal will provide yet another boost,” says Mats Rosin, Regional Director, Finavia. “Business growth tends to be contagious so expansion here will have a positive effect on the whole area. We are constantly working to advance Turku’s profile as a cargo airport,” Mr Rosin explains.
