Taking it all to Turku

International express delivery operator TNT made Turku airport the focus for its Finnish flights at the beginning of September. Overland transports between Turku and Helsinki, and Turku and inland Finland and the west coast will also increase.A cargo plane arrives in Turku from Liège, Belgium at 5.00 a.m. on Mondays and at 7.30 a.m. on other days. The plane heads back to Liège from Turku via Malmö at 10.20 p.m.

Swift growth at Turku Airport

Express delivery traffic worldwide has grown significantly throughout this decade, and the volume of goods carried by TNT via Turku has almost doubled in four years. TNT began flying express cargo to Turku in 2004 and new terminal facilities were built at the airport to meet the company’s specific needs. TNT introduced a new, larger cargo plane on the Turku route in 2006, doubling its facilities at the airport to cover 5,400 square metres at the beginning of 2008. Concentrating air cargo operations in Turku also means using larger planes and a Boeing 757 with a capacity of almost 30 tonnes came into service at the beginning of September.

New jobs

TNT’s focus on Turku further strengthens the area’s status as a logistics centre and has brought new jobs to the airport.
