Press release
DHL Express cargo flights operating on Turku–Leipzig hub route16.09.2008 DHL Express started daily return flights between LogiCity Turku and DHL’s European Air Hub in Leipzig on 15th September, speeding up shipments for customers located in Western and Central Finland.
“Since the beginning of August we have routed international road express transport through our new gateway terminal in Turku facilitating a highly significant improvement in road transit times between Finland and other Nordic countries, as well as to and from Continental Europe. This new Turku flight means we can efficiently draw together the pickup and delivery network for both air and road express shipments to benefit our customers,” says Kenneth Palmgren, Managing Director of DHL Express Finland.
The new flight arrives in Turku on weekdays at 0830 and departs for Leipzig the same evening at 2245. The Boeing 737 has a capacity of 16.5 tonnes and can carry heavy and large-volume shipments.
Focusing on LogiCity
Customers in Western and Central Finland in particular will benefit from the new service. The late evening departure means customers have the entire working day at their disposal to gather shipments for dispatch. Significantly later pickup schedules will be available as the shipments are no longer transported to the Helsinki flight. The special DHL EXPRESS 12:00 pre-noon delivery service in and around Turku will be fully on-stream at the beginning of October. It has already proven popular in the greater Helsinki area.
“DHL’s express air cargo route between Turku and Leipzig is making a truly significant contribution to the development of the LogiCity area. The fact that the world’s leading express cargo operator has decided to sharpen its road transport focus for LogiCity and re-route to Turku one of its two Finnish cargo flights sends a very positive signal for the development of the LogiCity area itself. It also indicates that what interests logistics operators in Turku is the union of air, sea, road and rail transports,” says Ari Niemelä, Managing Director of Pilot Turku Ltd.
